Convergence
Staring through the windshield of vehicles into highways at high speed, the receding vanishing point exerts a hypnotic pull, drawing me into vortices of light, compressing time during long drives.
Taking these photos, I sought to capture the exhilaration of fleeting moments of beauty in strange landscapes and to manage the anxiety of long distance, high speed driving in varying weather on unknown roads, as if by taking the image I felt some slight sense of control over the situation.
At a certain point, instead of seeing only white lines and road surface, I saw these moments as singularities, keyholes or portals into parallel realities, sliding door potentialities, other dimensions.
The photos were taken by iPhone in the period 2008 – 2025 across Europe, selected from an archive of thousands. Each image has a highway code and country reference. Locations include Germany, Spain, France, Italy, Switzerland, Belgium, Poland, Czech, Austria, Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Bulgaria and Greece.
